Who Else is Involved

Paediatrician

A Paediatrician will be on hand when your baby is born. They are a doctor who specialises in babies and children. They will supervise the neonatal care of your baby and arrange for a six week check-up of your baby. Dr Bajra is happy to arrange a Paediatrician of your choice for your birth, otherwise a Paediatrician on duty can be referred to.

Anaesthetist

If you need an epidural in labour or if your baby is to be delivered by Caesarean Section, you will need an Anaesthetist on hand to administer your anaesthetic. Dr Bajra will organise an Anaesthetist to help with the Caesarean Section

After Delivery

Most patients stay between 4 to 5 days in hospital after the delivery of their baby.  However, this is not strictly enforced.  If any medical problems arise, you may need to stay longer at the hospital.

After the birth of your baby,  you will be provided support in looking after the baby and with breastfeeding. A referral Lactation Consultant will be organised if needed.  You will be given details of maternal and child welfare clinics for ongoing feeding advice. Brisbane obstetrician Dr Bajra understands that breastfeeding may not be an option for all patients, and she supports her patients in whatever feeding decisions they make.

You will be seen by an experienced Physiotherapist during your stay in hospital.
